Worse

“Worse” is a raw, emotional track about the fear of a seemingly inevitable loss. Rooted in insecurity, it’s a desperate plea—a hope that someone will sabotage something beautiful before it inevitably falls apart. The song dives deeply into self-doubt and how fear can overshadow the longing for connection.

This track holds a special intimacy for me. It was the last song I recorded for Lemonboy, just me and my baritone ukulele, alone in the studio after everyone else had left. My voice was tired. My hands were tired. My brain felt like it was running on fumes as I tried to push past what was left to do. And, somehow, the result feels like something all the more honest, personal, and entirelystripped back to its emotional core.

worse

Read my favorite book

Tell me that you hate it

Play my favorite song

Say it’s overrated

Give me an excuse to run

I need you to be worse

I need you to be worse

All you are is good

All you are is good

So I need you to be worse

Call me late at night

Criticize what I’ve created

Empty out my eyes

And give me an excuse to run

I need you to be worse

I need you to be worse

All you are is good

All you are is good

So I need you to be worse

So I’ve put you on a pedestal

And I’m its lonely sentinel

Gentle by design

Barbed wire around my mind

Break this reverie

Tell me all my fears

Are founded ‘cause they’re true

Break me down by any means

‘Til my heart is black and bruised

I’m a walking curse

So I need you to be worse

I need you to be worse

All you are is good

All you are is good

All you are is good

All you are is good
