My Mind Is Always drifting Back To You

One of the most special parts of making Lemonboy has been collaborating with some of my dearest friends—members of my chosen family who have shaped both my life and my identity as an artist. This a cappella track features Emily Zornado, ROMXN, and Lady Queen Paradise, dear friends with whom I spent countless hours making music throughout high school and college. Emily and I co-wrote a musical that was produced in 2012, a project that cemented our creative bond, and have collaborated on countless songs in the years since.

When I was first embarking on this project, I had a phone call with Jack (ROMXN) in which he said, “If there’s one piece of advice I can give you, it’s that if it isn’t collaborative, it’s not worth doing.” This piece feels uniquely special and celebrates the wonder of collaboration, as everyone added their own artistic flare to the original arrangement.

“My Mind Is Always Drifting Back to You” explores how another person can transform your perception of reality, becoming an inescapable and inevitable presence in your mind. It’s a song about something that feels impossible yet undeniable—a moment of connection that lingers long after it’s passed.

My mind is always drifting back to you

It was my idea to play this out

Got what I expected

What do I do now?

The ground is tilting and as I write

I think the sun is coming up at night

If you’re not in the water, can you drown?

The colors in my world all seem to fade

They’re burning out like little lights

Blinking out ‘til all i see is black and white

‘Cause my mind is always drifting back to you

Yeah, my mind is always drifting back to you

If you don’t touch the fire can you burn?

The colors are all leaving me to hide

If you’re a blade, stab me with the knife

if you’re poison give me cyanide

‘Cause my mind is always drifting back to you

Yeah, my mind is always drifting back to you

What do I do?

What do I do?

What do I do?

What do I do?

What do I do?

What do I do?

What do I do?

What do I do?

What do I do?

What do I do to get my mind off of you?

And I write this down to get you out

But I’ve got a one track mind

Think my ship is anchored in a drought

It’s been gone a long, long time

And my mind always drifting back to you

Yeah, my mind is always drifting back to you

What do I do?

It was my idea to play this out

Got what I expected

What do I do now?
